Entering the U.S.

In general, Canadian citizens do not require a visa to enter the United States, however there are some exceptions.

All visa applicants must schedule an appointment with our consular section via the U.S. Visa Service. Visa information is not available by phone, and operators can only answer general questions regarding the scheduling process. The phone number for the Vancouver consulate region (which covers British Columbia and the Yukon) is 604-800-2794. If you live outside this region, please consult our main Embassy website to find the phone number for your area.

Applicants who have visa applications pending at the Consulate may direct their case specific visa inquiries to vancouverNIV@state.gov.

Individuals who wish to abandon their legal permanent residency status or are picking up Re-Entry Permits can personally come to the Consulate Mondays through Friday 8:00 to 12noon.

Returning Residents(SB-1)

If you wish to file for a Returning Resident (SB-1) immigrant visa at the U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver you can personally come to the Consulate on any Thursday between 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

All forms and supporting documents will be forwarded to the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal for processing.

Immigrant Visas

The U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver does not process immigrant visas, all inquiries must be directed to the U.S. consulate in Montreal.
